How this was calculated
Each change compares one portion of the swap with one portion of your food, using the values in our food list. Portions can differ, so the swap's portion is shown beside its name.

These are general ideas, not advice for a medical condition, and no food needs to be off the table. These swaps are a first draft, waiting for the nutritionist's review. This is an estimate for general information only, not medical advice.
Why Small Swaps Work
Big changes to the way you eat are hard to keep up. Food is tied to family, habit, and culture, and few of us want to eat differently from everyone else at the table. A swap asks for much less. You keep the shape of your meal and change one thing, on the days when it suits you.
Over time, a few changes you hardly notice can matter more than a strict plan that lasts only a few weeks.
How to Read a Swap
Choose a food that you eat often. You will see a few options, each with its own portion, the change in calories and fibre, and a short reason. A minus sign means less than one portion of your original food, and a plus sign means more.
Portions aren’t always the same size, so please read them alongside the numbers. One roti isn’t the same amount of food as one katori of rice, for example. That is why the portion is shown beside each option.
What the Numbers Leave Out
Calories and fibre are only part of the story. A swap might bring more protein, more vitamins, or less added sugar, which those two numbers don’t show, and the short reason mentions some of this. Taste matters too, because a swap you don’t enjoy won’t last.
Some swaps also have more calories than the food they replace, for example when they add fibre or a pulse. That isn’t a mistake. They are shown so that you can see the trade-off and choose.
Using This Well
Pick one swap to try this week, and notice how it feels. Keep what works, and drop what doesn’t. Cooking matters as much as the food itself, so it is also worth looking at how much oil or ghee goes in at home.
These swaps are a first draft, and they haven’t yet been reviewed by the nutritionist. If you would like changes that fit your health, your family’s meals, and your budget, a consultation can help you find them.
Questions About Food Swaps
Clear Answers, No Jargon
Do I have to give up the foods I like?
No. A swap is an option for some days, and no food needs to be off the table. Enjoying a paratha or kheer at times is part of a normal diet.
Why does a swap sometimes have more calories?
A swap isn't only about calories. Some add fibre or protein, or use a different portion. Each one shows its change so that you can decide for yourself.
Who chose these swaps?
This is a first draft, waiting for the nutritionist's review, and it may change. The figures come from the food list, and the reasons are general ideas.
Are these right for my medical condition?
Not necessarily. Diabetes, kidney disease, and other conditions can change what suits you. Please ask your doctor or a nutritionist before making bigger changes.
